Used - Acceptable: I'm looking for a way to get the "Identify Drive" feature on an Areca controller to work for me. Or maybe another technique to achieve this through another mechanism? New Areca ARC-1680 Series 6.
LFletcher New Member. Mar 26, Messages: The card still appears to be working fine and the drives don't disappear, but it won't let me manage the card again unless I reboot. Running the latest Windows driver 6.
Very odd. Each firmware update improves behavior and performance and makes more drives compatible. Strength of this controller is in random access patterns and improved parity calculation efficiency. Very fast. Tons of features.
This is almost like installing Areca ARC-1680 Series SAN - it can do anything you are likely to want to do. I installed the battery backed cache option plus the 2gb memory upgrade to get the best performance.

Since Areca still doesn't have this fixed, I would make sure you understand you will not be able to boot from drives attached to this controller if you are using Vista I used a pair of Velociraptors setup as Raid1 on build in Intel raid controller on my Skulltrail Areca ARC-1680 Series.
They I used this controller for 3 separate arrays of 14 1TB Seagate es2 drives.
